Core principles

A simple safety mindset for every chase

Plan, then re-plan

Before you leave, review the forecast, target area, and road network. In the field, update your plan as storms evolve—don’t get locked into a single idea.

Stay situationally aware

Watch the sky, radar trends, and your escape routes. If you can’t explain what the storm is doing and where you’ll go next, it’s time to reposition or stop.

Choose conservative margins

Keep extra distance from hazards (hail cores, lightning, flooding, debris). If you’re unsure, back off—there’s always another storm day.
